The 2026 recruiting cycle (class of 2026) has officially wrapped, and the contrast between the state's two powerhouses remains stark. Kalen DeBoer's Alabama machine purred to a drama-free finish, while Alex Golesh's Auburn Tigers swung for the fences—and missed.

Alabama: Boringly Elite

In Tuscaloosa, "boring" is a compliment. Alabama signed 27 players to finalize a class that ranks comfortably in the top 5 nationally (No. 3 on On3, No. 4 on 247Sports). The headliners are terrifying: 5-star running back Ezavier Crowell and 5-star linebacker/edge Xavier Griffin.

DeBoer also locked down depth in the trenches with OL Bear Fretwell and DL Jerrett Edwards. There were no last-minute decommitments, no hats being tossed aside—just signed letters of intent from a group that has been locked in for months. It is a testament to the stability DeBoer has established in Year 2.

Auburn: The Ones That Got Away

Auburn signed a solid top-15 class, highlighted by the earlier flip of WR Brian Williams from Alabama, which remains the cycle's crown jewel for the Tigers. However, the mood on the Plains was dampened by two massive whiffs on National Signing Day.

The Tigers pushed hard to flip 5-star offensive tackle Immanuel Iheanacho from Oregon, but he stuck with the Ducks. Similarly, a late push for 5-star edge rusher Zion Elee fell short, as he honored his pledge to Maryland. Both players would have been foundational pieces for Golesh's rebuild.

Despite adding quality pieces like LB Jaquez Wilkes and DL Tavian Branch, the inability to close on elite defensive line talent leaves a question mark heading into spring practice.

Verdict: Alabama continues to stockpile talent at a championship level. Auburn is improving, but the gap in elite, game-changing depth was visible on Signing Day.
