Shaun Alexander

The 1999 Iron Bowl was a historic milestone for the Alabama Crimson Tide. For the first time ever, Alabama defeated Auburn at Jordan-Hare Stadium, winning 28-17 behind a legendary performance from Shaun Alexander. Alexander, playing on a sprained ankle, delivered one of the grittiest performances in school history. After a slow start, he exploded in the fourth quarter, rushing for over 100 yards in the final period alone. He finished with 176 yards and three touchdowns. Auburn led 14-8 at halftime and seemed poised to defend their home turf yet again. However, Alabama's defense clamped down in the second half, and the offense rode Alexander to victory. The win secured the SEC West title for the Tide and finally exorcised the demons of playing on the Plains, proving Alabama could win anywhere.
