Sources and
Methodology.
Our archive is built to be useful first: every score, record, and historical note should be traceable, correctable, and clearly separated from commentary.
Primary References
We prioritize official and near-primary records when maintaining the Iron Bowl archive. The baseline references are Alabama and Auburn athletic department records, official media guides, NCAA records, contemporary game books, and widely archived newspaper accounts for older games.
When sources disagree, we keep the score and date consistent with the strongest official record available, then revisit the affected page when a better primary source becomes available.
Game Data
- Final scores, dates, venues, rankings, and attendance are verified against official game records where available.
- Older games are cross-checked against school media guides and archived newspaper accounts.
- Decade summaries and streaks are generated from the site's game database, not manually typed on each page.
Articles
- News and roster items should be tied to official school releases, conference announcements, draft records, or game recaps.
- Historical analysis is labeled as interpretation and should add context beyond a score summary.
- Corrections are welcome through the contact page and are reviewed before publication.
What Counts as Original Value
A useful rivalry archive should do more than repeat a box score. We aim to connect each result to series context: streaks, coaching eras, venue shifts, roster changes, decisive moments, and how a game changed the next season's expectations.
Our highest-priority improvements are source notes on major articles, richer game pages for thin historical years, and data tables that let readers compare eras without leaving the site.
Report a Correction
If you spot a score, date, player note, or source problem, send the year and the record you believe should be checked.
